The hills spread with tea, coffee, cardamom, rubber and eucalyptus estates were once the summer retreat of Travancore Kings. The place seems to have derived its name from the Sufi saint Peer Mohammad, was apparently the first spice trader of the region. The places worth visiting in this quaint little hill station are: Eagle Rock or Parunthumpara, St George’s Church, Thrisangu Hills, Summer Palace and Panchalimedu.
