Alappuzha»Mullackal Rajarajeswari Temple

Mullackal Rajarajeswari Temple is located in the heart of Alleppey town. The presiding deity is Goddess Rajarajeswari. The temple celebrates two festivals every year. The nine-day 'Navarathri' festival is very popular. The last two days of the festival are considered very auspicious. A colourful procession with nine elephants is held in the evening. It is witnessed by thousands of devotees. Several cultural programmes including Ottamthullal are staged in the temple. Another festival celebrated in the temple is a one day 'Thaipooyakavadi'. About fifteen Kavadis (a special performance where dancers, dance with a colourful headdress as big as the performers themselves) take part in this spectacular procession which is presented during the evening.
